Dictionary Distribution: October 16th, 2008, is the 250th birthday
of Noah Webster!
So, on that day, the Niwot Rotary distributed
dictionaries to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students and
the library at Niwot Elementary School. Each student's
name was printed on a label in the front of each book.
The dictionaries for the 4th and 5th grades were
purchased by the Niwot Rotary and will be provided
annually to all 3rd graders in the future. This year, the
dictionaries for the 3rd grade were sponsored
by Ryan Ferrero (President of the Loveland Rotary). Ryan
and his two sons, Dillon and Riley, raised money for the
dictionaries by riding from a triple tandem bicycle from
Astoria, Oregon, to Sun Valley, Idaho, this summer. That
is a natural distance of around 800 miles. They took off
for a few hills but figure they rode over 450 of it.
Dillon and Riley are students at Niwot Elementary.

At right, Rotarian Kelly Blackman and
Matt Driscoll distribute in the 3rd grade. Note the
Rotary's 4-way test is on the board.

Maitland Kunik works the 5th graders.
Stephanie
Horne's 4th graders show off their books.
The distribution Crew included Ryan and
his sons Riley and Dillon, Kelly Blackman, Maitland
Kunik, and Matt Driscoll.

Eli
submitted the information on our distribution
day to the people at the home project and they
posted a good article with pictures on the
distribution at Niwot High School:
Dictionary Project Web Site Article. ELL
is, by the way is "English Language Learners"
and now the more modern term for "English as a
Second Language'".
